General:

Even between friends, some jokes go too far

Strange things have been going on over at Gut Rumbles ever since Rob (aka Acidman) went to Jamaica for a vacation. Several of Rob's friends are worried about him.

I haven't ever had the pleasure of meeting Rob in person, but it seems a mighty cruel thing to put cats (which he hates) all over his weblog when writing and posting to that weblog is the one outlet he has in his life. From reading his weblog and the emails we have exchanged in our occasional debates, he seems to be an honorable man who would appreciate a joke, but this joke has gone too far.

Rob struggles with his demons, as we all do, but there is more to that than meets the eye. I suspect his demons are ones that not only would I not like to deal with every day, but demons that I wouldn't want even a nodding acquaintance with. I think it would be best to clean up his blog and let the man alone. I know his blog-friends are expressing their concern when they ask him to "come back" because they want proof he is OK, but it comes across as a demand to entertain. He has no obligation to entertain us, no obligation to explain himself to us, and no obligation to continue dealing with a joke that has gone too far.

He's just too hungover and whining his ass off.

Just think how rough she'd have been on him if he was driving one of those Hummers she's so uptight about.

He has an addictive personality. He admits this, yet he's been taking a handful of valium every day since he's been back. Such a man shouldn't need such a crutch.

His blog is his only form of therapy. If he fucks it up, and there's no companion in his life to pick up the pieces, then I'm afraid of what his outlet will be. Depression is powerful.

This was the point of the "wake-up call." I hope one of us gets through to him.

He does have his demons, some of his own making, perhaps. I'm concerned that he won't value life enough to be here for Quinton as his son grows to adulthood.
