General:

Leadership style

For Eric, the Straight White Guy, who wanted to know how I came out in the quiz: "What Historical Military Leader Are You Most Like?"

I've never been in the military, I've just been an amateur student of military history for over 20 years. I am proud to be able to say I have many friends who are current or former members of the US Armed forces.

It's a good thing I'm from the South, because my leadership profile matches Robert E. Lee. From the web site Military.com (sorry, registration required, grrrrr.... Eric, what are you thinking???):

Biography:

Robert E. Lee was the legendary commander of the Confederate forces in the Civil War. Against overwhelming odds, Lee scored victory after victory against the Union forces led by seven different generals. Famous battles include: 2nd Bull Run, Antietam, Gettysburg, and — possibly his greatest performance — Chancellorsville. Outnumbered two to one, Lee broke with convention and divided his forces not once but twice — ultimately driving the Federal army under Joseph Hooker from the field.

Leadership Attributes:

Personally, General Lee was reserved and seemed enigmatic to his men. But on the battlefield he was daring and audacious, as at Chancellorsville, where he divided his troops in the face of greater opposing forces. His diplomatic skills were as well-honed as his generalship. For example, in his early role as presidential adviser to Jefferson Davis, he tried to ease the difficult personalities of Confederacy President Jefferson Davis and General Joseph E. Johnston.

Lee served with honor in the Mexican campaign, contributing engineering and leadership skills and personal courage. The U.S. Army still recognizes his contribution to the Mississippi flood control project at St. Louis.

Putting loyalty to the Sovereign State of Virginia ahead of loyalty to the United States now looks like some as treason, but for him it was the right thing to do.

Sorry about that, Jack...I've been registered so long that I didn't realize it was going to ask everyone to register...also, for some reason, I thought you'd been in the Navy...anyway, thanks for taking the test!
