Rants:

I am VERY close to chucking this whole blogging thing...

    By Jack Grant

...because of the incredible stupidity I'm reading about the Newsweek report (that wasn't even a full article...).

This is categorized under "Rants" for a reason, and if you don't want to read a strong opinion, I suggest you stop here and move on.

I suspect I will lose at least a few readers over this one.

Otherwise, read on...

Apparently, most of the folks I read in blogword can READ THE MOTIVES of those at Newsweek.

Well, isn't THAT just awesomely fucking impressive, given that if you go by the divorce rates in our country, at least 50% of the married folks CANNOT READ THE MOTIVES of those they SLEEP WITH EVERY NIGHT.

Gee, the math isn't even really hard for this one, but apparently it's too difficult for most to overcome those damn knees jerking everywhere.

"Those at Newsweek just want to make our military look bad."

"The people at Newsweek are a bunch of traitors."

"They have a left-wing agenda and this proves it."

Sorry folks.

My patience is broken, and all I can say any more is:

BULL-FUCKING-SHIT!!!

YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THEIR MOTIVES ARE, ANY MORE THAN THEY HAVE ANY IDEA OF WHAT YOUR MOTIVES ARE.
.
.
.
I have HAD it.
.
.
.
This is complete and utter bullshit.

Just because you THINK SOMETHING does NOT make it TRUE.

Unless you have EVIDENCE of some GRAND LEFT-WING-CONSPIRACY centered in the news media, just shut the fuck up with your God damned blather about it.

It's gotten MORE than old.

The dipshit quotient of the United States is obviously MUCH higher than I ever thought it was, even in my darkest and most cynical moments.

Am I daring to defend Newsweek in their fuck up?

NO!

But, this does not make YOU OR ANYONE ELSE A FUCKING MIND READER.

So, just GODDAMNED WELL STOP WITH ASSIGNING MOTIVIATIONS TO PEOPLE YOU HAVE NEVER EVEN MET.

Unless, of course, you don't care if I try to read the minds of (insert YOUR SIDE here) and make sure that all the motivations I ascribe are COMPLETELY NEGATIVE.

GROW THE FUCK UP, PEOPLE.

This editorial was prompted by the incredible outpouring of thoughtless writing in blogworld.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled attempts of at least trying to achieve a balanced view on Random Fate.

I think we GET THE POINT. You're a RAVING NUTJOB with POOR IMPULSE CONTROL who can't SEPARATE REALITY FROM FANTASY. Does the name Evan Thomas ring a bell?

I love that you're ranting about hypocrisy elsewhere. Did you even read this before posting it?

I would suggest you read the weblog as a whole before you start making accusations such as those in your comment, but I readily see by reading your weblog that you are one of those folks who apparently think they can read motives at a distance, so there is no point, especially since I suspect you are one of the Esmay "hoo-ah" brigade who cannot stand that someone actually thinks Esmay is wrong.

Instead, I will suggest you look in a mirror for those very characteristics you accuse others of having instead of mindlessly repeating what your hero says.

Jack, I know exactly where you're coming from. I just didn't have the guts to post it in such direct terms. :)

Darlin' Jack,
Take a deeeeeeeeeeeeeep breath. I wrote to Mark Whitaker at Newsweek about their retraction and was pretty ticked off myself at the time. I said:
Since similar stories have consistently been published or expressed in various news media across the world, Newsweek’s story about desecration of the Qu’ran is not surprising. To link Newsweek’s report to incidents and death over this reporting is absolutely ridiculous and farfetched. The American government is fully to blame for the repeated Qu’ran and prisoner abuse incidents, and NOT reporting them is criminal. Any outbreak of violence is a result of our presence in a country that doesn't want us there. I hate to see the continued periscoping or narrowing of the lens of the press, into news that is all right from the government’s point of view. God forbid we should look worse to the world and actually take responsibility for our actions. Look what the current administration and their appointees are doing to Mr. Moyers, NPR, and PBS. It is difficult enough to believe what is in print now anyway because of this kind of subjugation of the press….but, when incidents like this are retracted, even though they are true and reported elsewhere for over a year now, it really makes me angry and upset. In fact, it chills me to the bone. It is a kind of silencing that cannot be tolerated in a Democracy. We have a right to know how horrible our own government and those who serve the government are acting on our behalf. Our abuses of freedom and humanity must be stopped. Please share this with Mr. Isikoff and Barry, both of whom I believe are fine journalists.

He replied directly with:
"We have no intention of backing away from our long tradition of fair but fearless reporting."
Regards,
Mark Whitaker

And, UncleMikey - sheesh, get over yourself. It appears to me that Jack has quite a valid point outside of his expletives. Do you ever see the conservative media or FOX for that matter retract ANYTHING!?? EVER? Even when they are proved to be completely wrong and full of BS as well as a propaganda tool for the current administration and the far-right? At least be fair you.........okay, taking a deep breath myself.....just, get over yourselves and be fair at the very least Mikey, be fair. Our government is subjugating and attacking the press, most of whom are wusses these days, and use them as their own propaganda tools. When they step out of line...BAM....your out and boy do they bring on the attack machine. I personally rely on press outside the US for the real facts or transcripts of words actually spoken.

Jack....don't stop now....I need another nearby blogger I can relate to.

Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the center cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.
