Condolences
By Jack GrantRob at Gut Rumbles has recently suffered the death of his mother, a loss that is heartbreaking no matter how old you are when it happens.
I stopped reading Rob a while back for reasons I won't go into here, but despite any differences he and I have had, I still want to offer what few condolences can be given. Based upon what Rob has written about her, the world is a lesser place now after her departure from it, and I wish Rob all the best in this sad time.
Sometimes I think the best gift children can give their parents is to outlive them, for no parent should have to endure the agony of burying their children, no matter how hard it is on the children to see their parents die.
Posted by Jack Grant at 17:49 on 13 March 2005My younger brother died at the age of 31. I wasn't sure my father would survive the funeral and aftermath. It took an incredible toll on both my parents. A friend told me of a (Chinese?) proverb concerning happiness: "Grandfather die, father die, son die".
I can tell you that watching your little brother die is as gut-wrenching an event as I ever hope to see.
