General:

Templates still not working

    By Jack Grant

OK, I'm reaching the limits of my knowledge on Movable Type installation and upkeep here...

I've installed version 2.66, and for some reason, the templates are still not working, even the default templates that are ALWAYS supposed to work.

It's coming close to time to call for help here...

Argh...

Well, I don't know how much I can help, but I'll try. I'm also running 2.66. Shoot me an email and maybe we can figure this thing out.

Jack;

Your template is fine, from what I can see. The problem is that your new installation can't find the CSS stylesheet.

(Little backgrounder: The template is what determines what content is on your page. The Stylesheet is what determines how it looks. Since you have the content OK, the stylesheet is the problem)

My suspicion, from what I can see, is that you had your blog (or at least your stylesheet) installed in your home directory at your old host, but now it's in an MT subdirectory?

At any rate, your main page is looking for your stylesheet at http://www.randomfate.net/styles-site.css but it's not there. Either it's in a different place, or you changed it's name.

If you look at the top of your main index template, it shows the path where it's looking for your stylesheet. Either put the stylesheet there with the name it's looking for, or change where it's looking to where the stylesheet is actually located.
Drop me a note if I didn't make this clear enough.

Also, moving to 2.66 allows you to use a newer 2.66-compatible Blacklist which has a couple of tweaks that make it vastly easier to deal with crap/trackback flooding. Be sure to upgrade.

Oh yea, and Teresa is right... when all the dust settled after the pricing hoopla for V3, SixApart wised up and decided "You can download an unsupported version of Movable Type for free. You're limited to 1 author and 3 weblogs." Unsupported means no tech support, but that's what you've been dealing with anyway. Given that SA is only going to be focussing their security efforts on V3, it kinda makes sense to go through all the upgrade annoyances at once when you're also changing hosts anyway.

Here's the download link for MT3.15:
https://secure.sixapart.com/t/store?__mode=confirm

Note that V3 will require a little tweaking to the comment sections of your old template, if you cntinue to use it. There are also a whack of new V3-specific templates, if you were thinking of changing anyway. Gimme a buzz if you need a hand.
