Opinion:
WARNING: Things won't be any better after the election
By Jack GrantI've come to a conclusion I find very troubling.
Regardless of who "wins" the election, the tone of hatred will not die down. If anything, the level of vitriol and divisiveness will get worse.
The election will not be a climax, it will be the first stage in a new civil war, one that is not fought with formalized armies as our last one was, but a war nonetheless.
I hate writing this.
I'll outline why I believe this in a future post, and I'll try to come up with some solutions. I'm too heartsick over what is happening in my country to write about it any more right now.
Posted by Jack Grant at 05:48 on 29 October 2004I hope you're wrong, but I don't think you are. I've never seen this country so divided, and whatever the outcome of the election, it won't change that. It will get worse.
Posted by: Sam at October 29, 2004 03:07 PMJack, I couldn't agree more.
Great blogging here...it's my first visit.
I assume you've seen 'Masked and Anonymous'..
I'll come back looking for future posts on this subject.
Posted by: Jude at October 29, 2004 03:09 PMI have to respectfully disagree. Close presidential races have always been viciously contentious. It's a by-product of the two-party system. In my opinion, this is not the worst it has ever been. In my short life, I've seen assassinations, cross burnings, lynchings, riots, etc. Do you think what we have today is worse than that? I don't. I think after the election is over, we'll all go back to living our lives. We'll continue to disagree about the best way to handle wars and such, but the sky will not fall.
