Opinion:
Debate winners and losers
By Jack GrantEveryone is talking about who "won" or "lost" the debates, as a whole or each individual debate. The debates serve as a good Rorschach test of politcal views, because I rarely see anyone say that their man lost.
There is one true loser of the debates and of the election, regardless of the outcome: the citizens of the United States.
If these two men are the best we can come up with for the highest elected office in our nation, we're fucked...

That may be true to many, particularly those who think their immediate needs should be met by the government.
I vote long term. I vote less government. Strong defense/minimal fiscal control. The last thing I want to do is risk any more government programs snowballing out of control, because we allowed government to "care" for our immediate needs.
It really wouldn't matter if I hated the guy. He gives me that, he's got my vote. This is business.
Posted by: Key at October 14, 2004 05:22 PMWe're fucked. I have come to the conclusion that is it such a crappy job, that nobody but those with big egos want it. Blech. One of my sons asked me once if he could grow up to be President and I told him, "yes... but you don't want that job." Then his older brother told him about assassinations and it went downhill from there...
Posted by: Boudicca at October 15, 2004 04:19 AMSad but true. Most people I know define their choice not in terms of the candidate they support but in terms the candidate they oppose. It is always either "I don't like Bush but here are the reasons I don't want Kerry as President" or "I don't like Kerry but I don't want another 4 more years of Bush." It is a sad commentary on a country that holds itself up as a model of democracy.

So you are voting libertarian?
No sane person actually believes Bush is for limited government. He is a domestic-fiscal liberal, he has chosen “good government” over limited government.
Bush claims to be strong on defense but we have MORE illegals coming across the border today than BEFORE 9/11. Did you catch the story about Chechens coming across our southern border?
Bush signed the assault on free speech that is campaign finance reform (I don't care what they “are trying to fix” don't mess with basic rights...)
I do give credit to Bush for standing up on the abortion and gun rights issues though, just don't try and tell me he is for limited government.
“The last thing I want to do is risk any more government programs snowballing out of control, because we allowed government to "care" for our immediate needs.“
Can you say drug benefits? They are both taking us to socialized medicine...
(you can imagine what I think of sKerry...)

Please provide detailed list of all great and glorious Libertarian leaders in USA. I not willing to waste my vote for screwball candidate from party with no great and glorious past leaders. This is exact reason I would not vote for Ross Perot, George Wallace, or comrade Ralph Nader.
