General:
More photos from the military museum in Brussels
By Jack GrantThe aviation wing (no pun intended) of the Belgian military museum had several aircraft that I've always been interested in, especially this one:
(click on any photo for a full sized image)

This is the MiG-15, which looks essentially like a jet engine with a pilot strapped to it. I have long wanted to look at this aircraft to see where the pilot fit in it. The next photo is from head on, and shows the narrow space between the two air tunnels where the cockpit is squeezed in:

I was experimenting with the settings of my digital camera when I was taking the photos, so unfortunately the auto-focus didn't work the way I thought on some photos. The photo John posted yesterday is slightly off-focus (it seemed to focus on something in the foreground rather than the vehicle). For those of you who want a larger image, here it is (click on the smaller image below):

From the section of the museum with older weapons, here is a suit of armor that made me grin. It is difficult to see (I was avoiding using the flash), but the breastplate of this suit of mail has an elaborate engraving depicting the Crucifixion. Looking a little lower, however, you can see that there were other things on the mind of the wearer of this armor...

I have more images I hope to post that were taken in and around the towns of Leuven and Brugges along with some photos from Brussels and the art museum there.
Yeap...the 15 is sweet. Nothing but motor.
Posted by: Sam at October 3, 2004 07:52 PMIf you ever get the chance to visit, the world's best aircraft museum is the US Air Force Museum at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. Beats the crap out of the Smithsonian.
They built an entire third hangar to hold the Cold War collection, including all the MiGs.

Posted by: John of Argghhh! at October 4, 2004 02:30 AMThe Mig !5 looks like a very distant cousin to the A-7.
You MUST visit the Naval Air Museum in Pensacola! IT IS THE BEST!
