Often the hardest thing to do is the right thing to do

by Jack Grant

The Commissar of the Politburo Diktat 2.0 does the incredibly difficult but ultimately right thing in issuing a mea culpa:

I think we (allegedly informed and thoughtful conservative bloggers) should have done better. There were plenty of warning signs and contrary voices. I didn’t want to listen to them.

Stephen takes an action that is beyond the capabilities of many, including the current President: admitting an error publicly and learning from the mistake.

Kudos to the Commissar, and here is to hoping that all bloggers, left-leaning along with the right-leaning, learn from his example.

I believe one must separate the raison d’etre for going to war in Iraq from the execution (good or bad) of that war. There might be plenty of reasons for prosecuting the war while still finding fault with how it’s been handled.

I recall the majority of Democrats calling for Saddam’s head on a pike in 1998-1999, when he was Clinton’s problem. I for one thought Bush’s decision to go to war in Iraq was wrong. It should have been to surgically neuter Iran, the real threat.

But we’re there now, and we must force the administration to fight this war effectively. But we don’t have the belly. Mookie Sadr should be assassinated, for instance. We got into a war we don’t have the guts to fight on the level of the enemy. We do better with high altitude airstrikes, like Kosovo.

I made a skeptical comment about this when you posted it at the Moderate Voice. So I think I owe it you and him to report to you that he has decided to vote Democratic in November.
