Pictures worth a thousand words
by Jack GrantAn open government is an absolute necessity for a democracy.
Here is how our president approaches journalism:

Remarkable how it is similar to the approach to journalism taken in China:

And here is how the right-wing in the US wants journalists to be treated when they “get out of line”… oops, this is how they are treated in China:

Do we really want to be following in the footsteps of the last large Communist regime that gained and keeps power through repression, imprisonment for speaking out against the misdeeds and crimes of the government, and profits through slave labor?
It seems that is what some are calling for, whether they realize it or not, and likely not since thinking and making connections and rational comparisons seems to be outside their capabilities.
And speaking of the right-wing, let’s talk about flag burning:

What is being desecrated, the flag or the Constitution for which it stands?

Hi Jack, long time, no tango… ; )
Well, I’m a right-winger in the U.S., and I think it should be perfectly legal to burn flags and write whatever in the paper. (And if something is leaked, spank the hand of the leaker.) Of course, I think that if someone leaks things (info OR Administration-bashing) that could help enemies of the U.S., just to launch their career or gain them favor in the media industry, that that person’s name should be Mud, and those of us who give a shit about our country should make it so.
I know that if some myopic Americans feel the urge to exercise these particular liberties in a disrespectful manner, I for one, will give them absolute hell for it… cuz that’s MY right. I’ll accuse them of treason, lack of patriotism, immaturity and just plain idiocy to name a few.
I think a lot of things should be legal from free, regime-attacking speech to first trimester abortion, and I’ll stand up for those rights. But that doesn’t mean that the people who exercise those rights shouldn’t be shamed for their actions, ideally getting trashed by a good 50% of the press as well.
It is unfortunate that a party with enough support to gain control of the White House/Senate can’t even the odds in the industry of network ownership.
That alone proves that this countries richest and poorest are typically more liberal, with the working class stuck in the conservative arena, begging to keep their hard-earned freedom and their hard-earned income.
Regarding network ownership…maybe with my next trillion. ; )
