In Memorial - III

by Jack Grant

A brief note for those who wish to make a gesture to honor my father, my family is asking that in lieu of flowers to please make donations to either the Salvation Army or the American Cancer Society in memorial of William Martin Grant.

Thank you to all who have expressed their condolences and sympathies either online or in private emails. The good thoughts and prayers for my family are greatly appreciated even though I do not have the time at the moment to respond to all of the messages and posts individually.

Jack,
My condolences to you and your family. My prayers and thoughts are with you.

All my ACS donations have hitherto been anonymous. My next one won’t…

replies aren’t necessary, Jack.

We’re just here to express our appreciation for the difficult decisions you’ve faced over the past year, and letting you know we’re sorry you’ve lost your Dad (at least in the living-breathing sense).

I hope you find comfort in the good memories, and the knowledge that you were there for him when it mattered most. I hope God brings you peace.

Jack,

Almost 20 years ago, I was called at work by my wife, who told me in plain words that my father had died the night before. It was completely unexpected, and beyond imagining at the time. I didn’t fall down, but I know now what people mean when they talk about their blood running cold.

All this time later, I still miss him. A lot. He was a machinist, so like you, I inherited his tools–and a little of his skills, I like to think.

I only tell you this so you will know you are not alone, though you cannot really share your pain, and also to offer the very small condolence that you got to say goodbye. It may not seem like much now, but I assure you, it makes a difference later.

Other than that, I’m sorry for your loss, and especially for the decision you had to make.

My prayers go out to you!

Jack,

Prayers for you and your family.

I hope that you will take comfort that your father and his father have been reunited at God’s table. They have left your clan in good hands.

God Bless.

I have not been online too much over the last week - I am so very sorry Jack. I wish I had words, but I never do in these cases. I have been praying for you and your family even though I haven’t gotten here for the last little bit.
