A summary regarding the riots underway in France

by Jack Grant

Here is a listing, in chronological order, of the posts on the riots in France I have written from my perspective as an expatriate in the country:

Random Fate - Fear and hate

Random Fate - Violence in France is spreading

Random Fate - More on the riots in France

Random Fate - Another view of the reaction to the riots in France

Random Fate - Q.E.D.

The Moderate Voice - Some thoughts both personal and more general on the riots underway in France

Given I live in the affected country, I may have a viewpoint that is a wee bit more informed than many you might read.

Even though we are being treated to an over abundance of pundits who are not in France at the moment telling us what is happening in France at the moment, I am inclined to give more weight to people who,

Jack, would you accept the reasoning that psition X was invalid because someone of group Y(that you said held position X) said so?
I’m attacking the logic behind your establishment of authority(I live here, so there!), not the points you’re trying to make.

It’s a rather non sequitor, I think.

Jack,

You say, “Given (that) I live in the affected country, I may have a viewpoint that is a wee bit more informed than many you might read.”

It may be equally true that your long-term residence bestows a uniquely Gallic myopia as regards the world around you. Perhaps if the “rioters” switch from burning cars and buildings to suicide bombings, like the Palestinians, you will reconsider your position?

For a less self-righteous sounding appraisal of the French “riots” let me suggest the observations of Joseph Farah at World Net Daily. (http://www.wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=47285)

There is a phenomenon in the United States which, for lack of a better title, we might as well call “Ignorance is Bliss.”

It works this way: if you actually know something about the subject under discussion, your opinions are worthless because you’re “biased”. Only the opinions of someone who knows nothing about the subject under discussion can count. Knowing nothing about it, they’re free from “bias” and whatever they think must be the truth.

Doesn’t make any sense to me either.

“Knowing nothing about it, they’re free from “bias??? and whatever they think must be the truth.”

You’re right, I see a lot of that going on everywhere around.

It seems to me that Jack was spot on in pointing out the problems in France. The only reason some people got pissed off is because they felt restricted by his criticism and reasoning beforehand…they couldn’t just go on a rampage spewing their usual bias everywhere they go. It is evident in all of their replies. Instead of coming up with counter arguments, they get all emotional and personal.

Calm down people, relax.
I’ll give you one of my favorite quotes:

“Opinions are like assholes, everybody has one.”
