…on how after four years, there are still only questions

by Jack Grant

If you are looking for some profound reflection on the “meaning” of September 11, go elsewhere, for you will not find any meaning to that lethal day here.

If you are looking for some words to salve the grim memories, such as those images of ones who chose to jump from 100+ stories above the street – fleeing flames climbing ever higher, go elsewhere, for you will find no comfort here.

If you are looking for some unique insight linking history both long past and more recent to find some sense in the past four years, go elsewhere, for you will find no unique insight here.

If you are looking for some hope within the days that seem to march ever darker since our rude awakening to the realization that the United States is indeed a part of the world at large that it generally chose to ignore, go elsewhere, for you will find no hope here.

If you are looking for some paean to “honor the memory of those who died” on the anniversary of the day they, along with hope, were murdered, go elsewhere, for you will find no paeans here.

Today, as is often the case, here you will find only questions.

Questioning is how one learns.

Since it is mainly other bloggers who read weblogs, the questions I ask today are relvent mainly to those who write weblogs or opine on politics routinely, but they can and should be applied more broadly.

My question is this:

When you write, when you opine, when you post, what is your main goal, the advancement of your “side”, or the success of our nation?

A second question:

When you write, when you opine, when you post, will the world be a better place, or at the least no worse, than it was before you chose to write, opine, post?

How are these questions relevant to this day?

Think about it.

It has been four years.

What have you done to make the world a better place?

I read Random Fate every day.

So far, not much has changed to improve the world.

I also eat a reduced amount of jam on my toast.

Oh…and I FINALLY got my boyfriend registered and out to vote for the first time in his life (he is 34).

How did I do?

September 11 will live in infamy for more than one reason. It was the day the media stopped asking tough questions and succumbed to the false notion that it is unpatriotic to question, disagree or protest. It was the day the Congress forgot that we must never sacrifice the freedoms that so many have died to defend. After a day that united the nation, united the world, our leaders embarked on a mission of demonizing their political foes in a way that has divided us more than at any time in our nation’s history.
I am not a blogger. I’m a thoughtful American and world citizen who has found in the blogosphere, the new media, a media willing to ask the tough questions, willing to voice unpopular opinion. It is a medium that might just shame the mainstream media into finally reclaiming its role as the looking glass and the magnifying glass that can peel back the layers of obfuscation and, in the finest traditions of journalism, reveal the truth.
Oh man, am I dreaming?

Greendreams, I agree with your 1st half, but on the 2nd, I wish you were true. Jack and literally 3 or 3 other bloggers are the only ones who do not merely grandstand, display noxious sciolism, nor suck up to one side or the other. This is why it has already failed. Like the Internet itself, and tv before that, and radio before that, it has become a lowest common denominator swamp of righteous bile. The few folk who might have something worth saying, like RF, linger at the blogosphere’s margins, while the frauds and charlatans rule- like in tv and radio.
Unfortunately, in answer to your last query: yes, it’s all a dream. Hope it was nice.

RINOs Without A Hero?

I only blog about myself, political people scare me.
