Another way to help longer-term

by Jack Grant

I am supporting donating to the Salvation Army for relief efforts against the consequences of Hurricane Katrina.

The Salvation Army has a lot of experience with helping people long-term, and helping people who have problems beyond just being a refugee from a major storm.

While the Red Cross and other short-term aid is vital at the moment, we need to remember that those in need because of this disaster have lost everything, including their jobs. This is a situation that will not be remedied in a few weeks, or even a few months, when the Red Cross and other immediate relief organizations have begun focusing on other disasters.

Donate wherever you feel it will do the most good.
